You basic marine engine has been built with the better parts from the manufacturer. It would never run right unless the engine was build to handle that profile. You wouldn't run a cam profile for a dragster in you stock boat engine. The cams are different in that the profiles are different because of the type of use. The marine engine runs at a higher sustained rpm while the vehicle engine runs at varying rpm. no difference except for the name marine use. The piston in the marine 4.3L is the same size as in the 350. I have found the same piston that the mercruiser dealer wanted $150 for $35. The vehicle rings are standard size the marine rings are metric. The only difference in it and a vehicle engine was the thickness of the rings. Just recently I have had to rebuild my 1998 Mercruiser 4.3L.
